Babytė, kurią vadino bandite
(2026 to present)
A documentary theatre and storytelling performance based on a true family history of freedom, courage and memory. Actor Eimutis Kvoščiauskas invites audiences into a sensitive and authentic story born from personal family memories, archival research and years of searching for the truth about his family's past.
At the centre of the performance is his grandmother, Ona Liutvinaitė-Kvoščiauskienė, a woman who became involved in the Lithuanian partisan resistance and whose choices changed the fate of her entire family. Alongside her story, the performance reveals the lives of her partisan brothers and her young son, who was left to grow up without his mother. Their stories remind us that the scars of occupation were carried not only by those who fought, but also by the children and families they left behind.
The Baby Who Was Called a Bandit combines live storytelling, authentic family memories, archival material, video projections and original music composed by Ieva Marija Baranauskaite and Mykolas Baranauskas especially for the performance. Drawing on the principles of documentary theatre, the production transforms personal research and family history into an intimate theatrical experience.
Rather than presenting history as something distant and abstract, the performance looks at it through the fate of one family and the choices of individual people. It explores what it means to make difficult decisions in times of occupation, what freedom can cost, and how the consequences of those decisions continue to affect the generations that follow.
The performance is a personal and powerful journey into family memory, bringing to light stories that might otherwise remain hidden. Through his own family's history, Eimutis Kvoščiauskas creates a space to reflect on Lithuania's past and on the people whose courage, choices and sacrifices became part of the country's history.
The Baby Who Was Called a Bandit is a performance about memory. About family. About freedom and courage. And about people whose stories deserve to be heard.
